Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 Not only was Gallifrey saved, but the way was opened for the Doctor to do something he has perhaps secretly yearned to do since that horrible day. The Doctor may have the chance to go home, not to the TARDIS, but to Gallifrey.

It comes at the climax of the doctor's battle against the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species, drawn together by a mysterious signal echoing throughout the universe, filling them with dread. "Everything ends," the doctor tells his companion and best friend, Clara, played by Jenna Coleman. "Except you," she tells him.

The newly-released preview of the episode, due to air on Christmas Day, features both him and Jenna Coleman's Clara looking frankly baffled as they tackle a turkey which looks decidedly uncooked.

And as Clara suggests he should ‘use an app' on his sonic screwdriver to save Christmas dinner, he calmly tells her: ‘It doesn't do turkey'. The clip follows a string of trailers which have been previously released for the episode - which will mark Smith's last appearance as the Doctor before Peter Capaldi takes over.

Although the plot of the episode has been kept largely under wraps, the trailers have seen the Doctor battle his trio of arch nemeses as well as face a siege on his home planet of Trenzalore. Meanwhile a recently released episode teaser promises ‘The Doctor must sacrifice everything to save a town called Christmas from the Time Lord's greatest enemies. A change is going to come, and Silence will fall...' The Time Of The Doctor - which also stars Orla Brady and Tessa Peake-Jones - will be air on 25th Dec.

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 Full Episode A show insider said: ‘There is lots of action and even stripping. This might sound odd but in one scene Matt is naked because he is going to a church in the sky where you are expected not to go clothed.

‘So his companion gets to see more than his sonic screwdriver. It was a funny scene for Matt and Jenna to film,' the source added to The Mirror.

The upcoming episode will be Smith's final turn at playing the Doctor, and Whovians will get no more new Who until the season premiers in 2014. Clara and the Doctor cook Christmas dinner and the Doctor gets to meet Clara's family. In season seven, Whovians were horrified to see 11 killed on the shores of Lake Silencio in Utah. In true timey-wimey form, head writer Steven Moffat brought in a younger Doctor to carry through the season. This is when we first learn of the Doctor's unavoidable demise in Utah, which he escapes -twice!- with help from his beloved psychopath wife River Song. River's attempt to save him backfires, fracturing time. The Doctor figures a way out however, and lives to fight another day.

The Time of the Doctor will feature Weeping Angels, Daleks and Cybermen - both metal and wooden - as well as Sontarans and Matt Smith has promised that the Christmas Special will be a "real belter".

The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, The Day of the Doctor, was a huge success with fans, critics, viewing figures and box offices - it was shown in cinemas around the world .

I can't help wondering if the BBC's special effects department might now have one less job to do - the footage of the Tardis flying over the Devon countryside could have come straight from an episode of the series.

The highlight, however, are the string of out-takes after 1:06 that show the disastrous crash landing that occurred after a battery shorted and sent it hurtling to the ground.

It's the last time you go for the first read-through, it'll be the last time when I put the bow tie and the boots on, it will be the last scene I do in the Tardis," he said.

Watch The Time of The Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 Online - But The Time of the Doctor won't be all doom and gloom. Doctor Who fans can look forward to seeing threads from across Smiths four-year stint brought together, with many of his foes, including the Daleks, gathering around the planet of Trenzalore, forcing the Time Lord to save himself and the fate of the universe.

According to Smith, "Steven (Moffat) has written a brilliant, adventurous, funny episode and I'm really thrilled with it."

"I think it's good for the Doctor to go out with a bang, a crash and a wallop. I hope it's going to be a belter."

The actor, whose time as the Doctor will end on the show's Christmas Day special, admitted: "My mother is mortified honestly, she was at the front of campaigning for me to stay.

"And she wasn't happy when I said I was going to leave. But when you gotta go, you gotta go."

Smith, 31, is leaving Doctor Who shortly after the show celebrated its 50th anniversary. His character will regenerate in an episode entitled The Time of the Doctor, which will see Peter Capaldi stepping into the iconic role.

Will you put the holidays on pause to say goodbye to Matt Smith in "The Time of the Doctor?" It's Christmas! A time for peace and goodwill to all. But hang on, its Doctor Who, surely it can't be that simple? We take a peek behind the lens on this cracker of a Christmas special.

We're just days away from the eagerly-anticipated 'The Time of the Doctor' and as Matt Smith's final appearance as the Doctor fast approaches, the BBC has released a preview clip from the Doctor Who Christmas Special featuring Smith and companion Jenna Coleman.

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - and amongst them, the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

Smith, 31, flashes his bare chest and skinny pins as he heads to church (in the sky) for what is bound to be a memorable last episode.

The Time Lord regenerates into Peter Capaldi during the festive special but first he and his trusty companion Clara, played by Jenna Coleman, have to see off the usual aggro from the likes of Daleks, Weeping Angels and the Silence.

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 It is unclear if 11‘s latest nemesis, The Great Intelligence will make another appearance in the Christmas Special. GI seems to know more about the Doctor and his exploits than any other foe he has yet to face. The special would not be complete without him, but only Moffat knows for sure. In the season finale, he dispersed himself through the Doctor's timeline in an effort to destroy him once and for all. Suffice it to say Whovians will get yet another installment of this long running, globally adored story. It might be enough to hold them until the season premier. Due to be broadcast on Christmas Day, The Time of the Doctor will see Matt Smith make his final appearance as the Time Lord alongside Jenna-Louise Coleman's Clara Oswald. The time-travellers will journey to the site of the Doctor's tomb at Trenzalore, a place where alien foes the Silence warned him never to venture.

A BBC synopsis reads: "Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. "And amongst them - the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe." Teaser images show a solemn Doctor holding the head of a Cyberman while Clara looks on, dressed in a festive skirt and green party hat with a Christmas cracker in hand.

Judging by the short trailer, fans can expect enemy resistance from "the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species". Weeping Angels, Daleks, the Silence, Cybermen and some ominous frozen hands reaching out from the snow. Producers have promised to tackle the 'regeneration riddle' with Matt Smith expected to reveal himself as the '13th Doctor'. Next Doctor Peter Capaldi is rumoured to be joining the show at Christmas after he was announced as the next Time Lord in August.
